Expel: Technical Account Manager

Headquarters: Remote

You’ve spent your career helping security teams get more from their technology. You understand what it takes to operationalize security tooling across an enterprise, and your credibility with customers comes from technical depth and hands-on problem solving. As a Technical Account Manager at Expel, you’re the dedicated technical advisor for a portfolio of enterprise security programs. You drive platform adoption, deepen integrations into customers’ security ecosystems, and ensure they get full value from their investment in Expel’s managed detection and response service.

You partner closely with Customer Success Managers, who own the commercial relationship and retention outcomes. Your role is to deliver technical depth and expertise that frees CSMs to focus on strategic and executive relationships. When incidents occur, you own the technical response coordination with customers. When integrations or troubleshooting challenges arise, you work to resolve them, escalating to senior team members when needed.

Your success is measured by technical value realization within your accounts: adoption metrics, time-to-value, customer technical health scores, and your contribution to retention outcomes alongside your CSM partners. You work with enterprise accounts where the technical complexity and investment level warrant dedicated technical advisory support.

What Expel can do for you

  • Extend your network of security leaders across a wide variety of industries
  • Plug you in to customer missions that matter: keeping people safe and saving lives
  • Deepen your expertise in the security market, and in particular security operations
  • Set you up to flex your consultative risk management and security strategy muscles
  • Provide access to, hands down, the best security operations platform on the market
  • Help you continue to gain experience with security technologies and methodologies

What you can do for Expel

  • Drive platform adoption and technical health metrics for assigned accounts, ensuring customers fully leverage Expel’s capabilities
  • Build deep technical relationships with security practitioners, architects, and technical leaders who influence platform adoption and integration decisions
  • Advise customers on security program improvements, detection strategies, and how to get more value from their technology investments
  • Help customers mature their use of Expel over time, expanding integrations and optimizing their configuration. Provide technical content and support for CSM-led quarterly business reviews
  • Handle troubleshooting and integration challenges, partnering with TSEs, Detection & Response, Engineering, and Product teams as needed; escalate complex issues to senior TAMs
  • Own technical incident response coordination with customers, managing the technical aspects of security incidents while CSMs handle executive communication
  • Identify technical expansion opportunities (new integrations, additional coverage)
  • Support and learn from more senior team members on the most complex technical challenges

What you should bring with you

  • 5+ years of security industry experience, majority in consultative customer-facing roles
  • Deep technical expertise in two or more security product spaces (EDR, NDR, SIEM, Cloud security, IAM, etc.) and associated detection strategies
  • Experience in customer-facing technical roles (solutions engineering, professional services, technical consulting). Understanding of enterprise security operations and the challenges security teams face
  • Strong consultative skills; leads with listening, understands customer context before recommending solutions. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences, from SOC analysts to security directors

Additional Notes

The base salary range for this role is between $114,300 USD and $165,700 USD, plus variable compensation and equity. While the full salary band reflects our long-term compensation framework, we’re primarily targeting candidates between $130,000 and $155,000 based on experience, skills, and market data. This role has an 85/15 pay mix, resulting in targeted on-track earnings (OTE) of approximately $152,941 to $182,352 USD.

We believe in paying transparently and equitably. Your salary will ultimately be based on factors such as your experience, skills, team equity, and market data. Youll also be eligible for unlimited PTO (which we model and encourage), work location flexibility, up to 24 weeks of parental leave, and really excellent health benefits.

We’re only hiring those authorized to work in the United States.

Remote Jobs (Work From Home)

Software Engineer, AI Coding Tasks

We’re looking for experienced software engineers to build AI coding tasks from a codebase they know well. US$1,000 per task, and you can do as many tasks as you want.

You turn a real change from a repository you know into a task that today’s best AI coding models struggle with: hard for the models, but fair for a skilled engineer. Your tasks are used to measure and train AI coding models.

Remote, any location. US$1,000 per task that passes review. Minimum of one task a week, about 10 hours a week.

How it works

  1. Apply. Complete a short screener interview and upload your resume.
  2. Propose. Once you’re selected, pick a change from a repository you know and submit a short proposal. We approve it or suggest a better candidate.
  3. Build. In our platform, set up the repository as it was before the change, then write the brief, the correct solution and the grading checks.
  4. Stress-test. Try lazy, incorrect and shortcut solutions and make sure your checks catch them.
  5. Model testing. Run your task against leading AI models until strong models often fail but a skilled engineer can clearly solve it.
  6. Review. A reviewer checks your task and you revise it. Most tasks take more than one round.
  7. Next task. Once your task is accepted, start another.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering
  • Code merged into a public open-source repository, ideally one you know well. A private codebase you own may also qualify (not employer or client code)
  • Strong in at least one of Python, TypeScript, Go, Rust, Java or C++
  • Solid with Docker, Linux, Git and automated testing
  • Regular use of an AI coding tool
  • Experience writing tests, rubrics or evaluation criteria, ideally for AI models
  • You can explain a change clearly and concisely, in your own words
  • At least 10 hours a week, starting now
  • A secure personal or work computer (no public or shared machines)

Nice to have

  • Deep expertise in one area, such as databases, compilers, distributed systems, security or infrastructure
  • Experience building agent tasks or RL environments

Terms

  • US$1,000 for each task that passes our quality review, paid directly to you
  • Once your proposal is qualified, you sign Askable’s contract and accept its terms
  • The work is used for AI training. The change and your solution must be your own, and you must be free to license them to us
  • Don’t publish the work anywhere: no public pull request or public fork
